Richard studied the New Mexico style of John Gaw Meem - a legendary southwestern Architect, responsible for defining and cataloging historical vernacular NM architecture (now considered the Santa Fe style). Schalk's work is in the John Gaw Meem Archive of Southwestern Architecture, Special Collections UNM main campus, Zimmerman Library. Having graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1973 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture, Richard has more than 35 years experience in Architecture ranging from residential historic custom homes to commercial hotels and sports facilities. He is a Registered Architect in California and New Mexico, with memberships in the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He has produced a number of award winning homes and has had homes featured in the American Institute of Architects, Albuquerque Chapter as well as magazines and various fund raising events. Richard Schalk has affiliated with a design/build company, the Akamai Group, LLC. This has allowed us the ability to offer a complete package from conception to bath towels. John Blueher of Blueher Abodes and Terri Krueger of TK Designs are my partners. See our work in the American Institute of Architects Home Tour 2005, May 1st.
